The job of getting a job, Lots of Red Flags, and the American Type
Chaos Resumes
Chip Huyen wrote out what him and his company look for in resumes of people applying for jobs at his company. His approach is thoughtful, caring, and considers each person as a person. I mean, he actually reads the resumes which is very unusual. Most companies rely on automated resume scanners to select the "best" candidates and send them for review, with the rest going into the black hole of the internet forever.
The problem is, Chip doesn't bother to let candidates know of this unique process on his job posts. Then he docks candidates for sending in resumes designed to get past the automated resume scanners. Oops. On the one hand, it's nice to know that there are still companies out there that still review all applications because applying for a job today is a tedious and odious task, but on the other hand, if the company isn't communicating how they're screening candidates, it's just more chaos.
Job postings should explain the steps taken after a candidate submits their resume. If they want to play games, they should at least play fair.
Red Flag, Blue Flag, One Flag, ALL THE FLAGS
How well do you know the flags of the world? Find out. (I was nowhere near as good as I hoped to be!)
Ugly Gerry & the Shape of American Democracy
Check out this entire font (all 26 letters of the English alphabet) made exclusively with the increasingly unique shapes of US voting districts. Maybe they should have called it Times New American? Sans Democracy? Helvotica?
Call it what you want. The name of the font isn't the problem here.
